- PRV Audio 6MB200-4 — Full Description
- The 6MB200-4 is a high-sensitivity mid-bass driver with a 6-inch nominal cone diameter, 4-ohm impedance, and a 1.5-inch copper voice coil. It is intended to reproduce the punchy portion of the audio spectrum between deep bass and the lower/middle vocal range.
- Its relatively high sensitivity makes it capable of producing substantial acoustic output without requiring enormous amplifier power. PRV specifically describes it as suitable for small enclosures, bookshelf/satellite speakers, surround speakers, studio monitors, three-way cabinets, and car-audio installations.

- What the numbers mean
- 🔊 100 W RMS / 200 W program
- The driver is rated for 100 watts continuous/AES power and 200 watts program power. This means you shouldn't interpret "200 W" as its continuous thermal rating. For a long-term installation, designing around roughly 100 W RMS per driver is the safer interpretation.
- ⚡ 4-ohm impedance
- The 4 Ω nominal impedance makes it appropriate for many car-audio and pro-audio amplifiers.
- For example, two of these drivers wired:
- Parallel: 2 Ω total
- Series: 8 Ω total
- The actual impedance varies with frequency because a loudspeaker isn't a fixed 4-ohm resistor.
- 📢 93 dB sensitivity
- The original model is rated around 93 dB sensitivity, which is quite efficient for a small mid-bass driver. That means it can produce good output with comparatively modest amplifier power.
- The v2 is slightly more sensitive at 93.5 dB.

- PRV Audio
- 🎵 Frequency range: 125–4,500 Hz
- This is not a subwoofer. It is designed primarily for mid-bass and lower-midrange.
- A typical system might divide the spectrum approximately like:
- Subwoofer → 20–125 Hz
- 6MB200-4 → ~125–4,500 Hz
- Tweeter/compression driver → above ~4,000–5,000 Hz
- PRV recommends a 125 Hz high-pass filter with a 12 dB/octave slope when trying to obtain its full rated power handling.
- P
- PRV Audio
- That high-pass filter is important because the driver's free-air resonance is around 114.5 Hz. Trying to make a 6-inch mid-bass driver reproduce very deep bass at high power can cause excessive cone excursion.
- Motor and voice coil
- The driver uses a 1.5-inch (38 mm) copper voice coil mounted on a Kapton former. The original version has a 12.5 mm voice-coil winding depth and a 5.5 mm magnetic gap.
- P
- PRV Audio
- The magnetic motor uses a ferrite magnet, while the basket/frame is made from stamped steel. This gives the driver a relatively rugged construction while keeping its weight around 3.3 lb.
- Thiele-Small parameters
- The T/S parameters are particularly useful if you're designing an enclosure.
- For the original 6MB200-4:
- Fs: 114.5 Hz
- Qms: 24.30
- Qes: 0.86
- Qts: 0.83
- Vas: 5.15 L
- Sd: 154 cm²
- Mms: 12.41 g
- Cms: 0.155 mm/N
- Bl: 6.18 Tm
- Xmax: 4.87 mm
- P
- PRV Audio
- The relatively high Qts of 0.83 and relatively small Vas of 5.15 L make this a very different driver from a conventional deep-bass woofer. It is much more naturally suited to mid-bass duty in a relatively compact enclosure than to trying to produce subwoofer-level bass.
- Physical dimensions
- For installation, pay particular attention to the cutout and mounting depth.
- Outside diameter: 166 mm / 6.53"
- Baffle cutout: 143 mm / 5.63"
- Mounting depth: 66 mm / 2.60"
- Overall depth: 74 mm / 2.91"
- So you need a baffle capable of accepting approximately a 5.63-inch cutout, while allowing at least 2.6 inches of mounting depth, plus some additional clearance for the terminals and wiring.

- 6MB200-4 vs. 6MB200-4 v2
- This is important because there are two versions.
- The original 6MB200-4 is rated at:
- 100 W RMS
- 200 W program
- 93 dB
- 125–4,500 Hz
- Fs 114.5 Hz
- Qts 0.83
- The 6MB200-4 v2 is an updated design with:
- 100 W nominal power
- 200 W continuous program
- 400 W peak
- 93.5 dB sensitivity
- 125–6,500 Hz
- Fs 123.79 Hz
- Qts 0.97
- Xmax 4.80 mm
- Vas 3.97 L
- The physical dimensions are essentially the same.

- PRV's current product page identifies the 6MB200-4 v2 as a 6.5-inch-class midbass product, although its actual nominal driver diameter is 6 inches (152 mm).

- Best applications
- I'd consider the 6MB200-4 particularly well suited to:
- 🚗 Car audio mid-bass
- 🔊 3-way speaker systems
- 🎚️ Professional/PA speaker systems
- 🏠 Compact Hi-Fi speakers
- 🎛️ Studio monitor projects
- 📦 Small speaker enclosures
- 🔧 Replacement midrange/mid-bass driver applications
- It is especially useful when you want punch and efficiency rather than very deep bass.
- Bottom line
- The PRV Audio 6MB200-4 is essentially a high-efficiency 6-inch mid-bass driver built to deliver strong, clean output from roughly the upper-bass region into the lower/midrange. Its 4-ohm impedance, 93 dB sensitivity, 100 W RMS rating, 1.5-inch voice coil, and compact 6.53-inch overall diameter make it a versatile driver for car audio and compact multi-way speaker designs.
